Join hands to build Nigeria – “governance is not a one person or party affair” – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said all well meaning Nigerians must join hands to set the nation on the path of growth and development.

Buhari made the appeal on Saturday in Kaduna at the launch of the book, ‘An Educational Icon’, written in honour of late educationist, Malam Yahaya Hamza.

He said the administration require the support of all Nigerians to emancipate the country from backwardness.

President Buhari, who was represented by Prof. Dahuwa Azare, Director General, National Teachers Institute, said “it is high time we appreciate the fact that governance is not a one person or one party affair.

“We must collectively reinvent the Nigerian project to enable her join the league of other proud nations of the world.”

Buhari described late Hamza as a rare gem who made a mark in the education sector and lived a fulfilled life.

“He is a person who contributed immensely to the education sector and overall national development.

“Nigeria today is seriously in need of people who can contribute positively to its socioeconomic and political development.

“We need people like Malam Yahaya Hamza who are ready to sacrifice their today for tomorrow and for tomorrow’s generation.

“Therefore, all well meaning Nigerians should lend their hands in ensuring the necessary change to move the country forward.

“Our commitment to rid this country of insecurity and terrorism is total and non negotiable.

“Our soldiers have succeeded in degrading Boko Haram insurgency and are always on alert to deal with any element wishing to destabilise the nation.

“This administration has just inaugurated a committee headed by Gen T.Y Danjuma to implement the development agenda for the North East.

“The programme is designed to resettle displaced persons affected by Boko Haram terrorists act and rehabilitate them through job and wealth creation.”

The President also said the government had commenced discussions with Niger Delta elders to heal wounds and restore stability to the region.

Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State, described late Hamza as a father and a great teacher, who instilled in his children and students the virtues of patience, humility, hard work, and integrity.
