WATCH Former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi’s Speech that Got People Talking on Twitter
A former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has said that cutting the cost of governance will bring development to Nigeria.
Speaking on the topic, “Cutting cost in governance,” Obi said: “Government house is not a restaurant, I told my cook to cook for only one person.”
Obi spoke at The Platform, an annual event on leadership, business, creativity and national empowerment. Obi said he saved over N75b for Anambra state before he exited office.
The former governor also advised governors to scrap the Office of the First Lady which he said gulps N2 billion monthly.
“It costs an average of N2 billion to run the office of the First Lady in every state in Nigeria. Multiply by 36. Nigeria can still function on its income if only we learn how to cut cost. We need to cut the cost of governance. No governor needs a house in Abuja; governors don’t live in Abuja,” Obi said.
Obi blamed the over-bloated spending habit of most governors as the cause of poverty in Nigeria. He also said that religious leaders should stop celebrating corrupt politicians especially when they know the person has no viable source of income.
Here are some reactions from Twitter NG following Obi’s speech:
Peter Obi that his friends will want to throw a party for and he’ll tell them to use the money to buy an ambulance for a hospital in need

Buhari is being frustrated. Let’s support Buhari. Blah blah. Peter Obi’s speech just shows that Buhari is not even using plain common sense.

Still watching Peter Obi. First thing is that he speaks like a businessman, not a politician. He counts the copper.

Peter Obi spoke well, and another politician will speak well in future
But please do DUE DILIGENCE on all politicians

Just watched Peter Obi’s speech and I now get why my Anambra friends snorted at Fashola’s “progress” in Lagos. Even he wasted money. 🙁

Just listened to Peter Obi’s speech. Very well delivered. What I found sad though was everything he listed was intuitive unless you’re greedy

It was refreshing listening to Peter Obi. A politician telling you what “he has done”, not what “he will do” or “what he plans to do”

My job’s not to make people happy. There are people in the entertainment industry that do that; mine’s to make good decisions -Peter Obi
