Ayishat Olanrewaju: Being A Master in Your Field is Important For Your Brand
As a personal brand, you need to know your skills so well that you become an authority in your field. This can only be achieved through thorough learning and spending years getting better at what you do.
Everybody wants to build a brand, but not everyone wants to spend time perfecting their skills and mastering their craft.
Building a personal brand is of no use if you are not working to ensure you actually know what you say you know, and that you know it very well.
As a personal brand, you need to know your skills so well that you become an authority in your field. This can only be achieved through thorough learning and spending years getting better at what you do.
Here are some ways to help you master your craft:
Cultivate the discipline to learn and improve
Continuous learning requires discipline, and if you want to stand out in your field, you need to cultivate the discipline to train and retrain yourself. Don’t think that there is nothing else to learn again; there are still a lot of things to learn in your field.
Invest in your personal development
To make your brand stand out, you need to invest in yourself. Invest in soft and technical skills that will make you get better at what you do and at who you are.
Practice a lot
It is not enough to learn, you need to practice what you have learnt so that you catch the areas you need to improve on, and then work on them.
Get feedback
You may not like feedback, but if you are serious about improving your skills and becoming a master at what you do, you need to solicit for feedback and work on the areas that are lacking.
Find your own unique twist
There is something unique to only you that you can do and do well. Just because you are in the same industry with someone doesn’t mean you can’t be different. Find what makes your brand unique and then use it to your advantage.
Teach
One of the fastest ways to get better at what you do is to teach what you have learnt to someone else. By teaching what you have learnt, you are giving yourself the opportunity to learn more and become a master at the subject matter.
Keep improving
This is simply a no-brainer; to master something, you need to keep improving at it.
