#BellaNaijaWCW Seun Sangoleye of Baby Grubz Nigeria is Helping Parents Meet their Babies’ Nutrition Needs
A child requires more attention and care in the first few years of his/her life than at any other time all things being equal. This is very true, especially in the area of nutrition.
Our #BellaNaijaWCW this week Seun Sangoleye was frustrated by the limited options for baby food and formula in Nigeria and she decided to approach the dilemma with a problem-solving mindset.
She quit her job and started Baby Grubz Nigeria, a food-and-nutrition solution service for children aged 0 to 5. Seun has over 12 years experience as a nutrition educator and more than 5 years manufacturing and packaging infant meals and snacks made from local grains, fruits, and vegetables.
Seun, while working and nursing her son, discovered that there were limited, almost zero nutritious meals that were available locally. She decided to start Baby Grubz to make nutritious meals for her son, but she realised there are many other parents facing the same challenges.
She decided to expand, starting out with cooked, ready-to-eat frozen meals, but the reality of the power situation in Nigeria made her and her team innovate. Baby Grubz then came up with our Farm to Table range, which she says is nutritious, pocket and family-friendly.
Baby Grubz Nigeria also runs the Natural Delicious Food for my Baby – by BGN Facebook group which boasts of almost 200,000 members. It is a “community dedicated to offering a friendly environment in which to chat about all things baby and toddler feeding related.”
Baby Grubz is also passionate about women empowerment, especially financially, through the distribution and sale of their products.
Seun holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Lagos State University (LASU) and a certificate from Cornell NutritionWorks. She’s a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship participant, and also a nominee in The Future Awards Africa (TFAA) Prize for Business in the same year.
Seun is an African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) Innovator and a 2017 LEAP Africa SIP Fellow.
