A Federal High Court has Ordered the Recovery of “Life Pensions” from Former Governors
It has been described as a “landmark judgement” by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), the Federal High Court in Okoyi ordering the recovery of “life pension” paid to several former governors.
The news is coming after the Zamfara State House of Assembly abolished a law that allowed the payment of pension and other allowances to former governors and their deputies.
News of the court decision was shared on Twitter by SERAP, who added that the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, was directed to challenge the legality of states’ pension laws permitting former governors to collect such pensions.
The Cable shared that among the governors affected by the ruling include Babatunde Fashola, Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Godswill Akpabio, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Kayode Fayemi, Jonah Jang, Chris Ngige, and many others.
