Maverick Films company released a short film titled Armstrong, which is a short film that was produced, directed and written by Omoruyi Irabor the CEO of Maverick Films, in late 2016.
The film, starring Samuel Ajibola, Omobola Akande, Duke Elvis, Bukola Oladipupo, Victor Nwaogu and a host of other talents, was viewed for the first time in the summer of 2017 to a private audience at Muri Okunola Park, in which it received positive feedback from its viewers.
Next, up, it entered the film festival circuit and received 4 nominations from Afriff, Inshort Film festival, Zanzibar International film festival and Lake pan African international film festival in Kenya, all received between 2017 – 2018.
Synopsis:
Armstrong tells the story of a young secondary school student who is constantly bullied by his peers, because of his small stature and quiet demeanor. One day on his way back from school, he gets a call from the hospital that his mother had a diabetic episode. In order for her to receive her final treatment, the outstanding bill must be paid and David is the sole next of kin. Without a job or a penny to his name, he has only 1 hour to find the money and pay for the treatment or risk his mother being detained and facing another potentially fatal attack. With no one to turn to, David finds himself at an Arm-wrestling arena on his way home, in which the champion will walk away with a cash prize, the catch? The winner has to defeat men of Goliath size proportions, the strength no mere can posses without relentless training. David soon discovers the inner strength that lies within, when a loved one’s life is on the line…and in the process of Discovery, he finds his alter ego….Armstrong.
