Gun violence is a major challenge especially in developed countries where possession of arms is legal. Although this Sunday was Father’s Day celebration all over the world, the day after wasn’t so rosy for the residents of Chicago – a 17 year old boy was shot in the head in the early hours of Monday and presumed dead on the streets of Chicago. Erin Carey was not the only one involved in this gun violence case, but his story is getting the headlines.

According to CNN, the paramedics presumed him dead on the crime scene and covered him up with sheets. They went ahead to attend to other victims. According to Chicago Tribune, witnesses called the officers’ attention to Erin’s body which appeared to be moving from side to side. Erin was then attended to and rushed to the hospital in critical condition but he passed away on Tuesday at 1:19 a.m.

Although the case is still under investigation as to why the paramedics presumed him dead before his actual death, or whether Erin aided in the escalation of the shooting incident, this doesn’t still change the fact that yet again gun violence has claimed the lives of a teen who just graduated high school, a 22-year old woman, and left four other persons severely injured.
