Meet Amaka, a Domestic Help & Aspiring Model transformed through Celeb Photographer Anny Robert’s Camera Lens

Known for his striking portrait shots of celebrities like M.I Abaga, Chris Attoh, Munachi Abii, Lola Rae, Noble Igwe, FellaMakafui and more, celeb photographer Anny Robert took a step out of his comfort zone to help the dreams of a domestic help come true.

According to Anny, “What better way to step into the month of love than to shoot an absolute stranger for free?”

The girl that was captured in these spectacular shots is Amaka; A house help who had been dreaming of becoming a model and practised often in front of a mirror as her only source of motivation.

Her Story:

She grew up in dire poverty and during the shoot she recounted going days without food and water in the village. She described her displaced siblings, who she hasn’t seen in years as they had gone on to become maids in the major cities to avoid starving to death. According to her, she decided to move to Lagos in search of a life, any kind of life.

How They Met:

Her modeling dreams became a reality when Anny Robert visited a friend meaning to drop off a birthday gift. Amaka unwittingly walked past him to her Aunt’s flat with a crate of eggs on her head, dressed down in a black vest and jeans; an idea was birthed! Anny couldn’t quite place what was so endearing about her but as he studied her profile while he knocked, he decided he wanted to take a few portrait shots of her. He asked her to come to his studio but she shyly declined stating she wasn’t allowed and had no money but he noticed the glint in her eyes. He informed his friend who in turn took on liability for Amaka and made sure she got to Anny’s studio and back. With that, the transformation began.
