Do Designers Model their Pieces the Best? These 8 Nigerian Fashion Mavens Make Us Think So!
We love fashion! The ‘ooh’ & ‘ahh’ worthy pieces Nigerian designers dish out every year are always something to look forward to. And every now and then, we get to see just how these fashionable pieces would look, if they were worn by the people who made them.
From menswear to womenswear, these designers, who love to rock their designs, make us want to own them even more. They show off the best assets, and sell the fact that ‘they don’t just make the pieces, they wear them too’.
So, to give a shout out to some of the amazing Nigerian fashion designers who love to rock what they make, BellaNaija Style has come up with a list of 8 that show sometimes the designer is the best model.
Check them out!
Lisa Folawiyo of Lisa Folawiyo
If you follow the amazing womenswer designer, Lisa Folawiyo on Instagram, you’re probably already in love with 2 things – her fashion & her collection of shoes.
We love spotting Lisa in her pieces because she always puts a spin on them, be it with a jacket, a different top or a chic belt.
Here you can see her rocking 2 pieces from her Autumn/Winter 2015 collections – one is a sexy dress featuring a thigh-high slit, and the other a chic and Autumn appropriate coat paired with a denim shirt.
Let’s take it back in time. She also rocked these chic pants from the Spring/Summer 2015 collection we couldn’t get enough of, and paired it with an ankara shirt.
Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi of LDA
Lanre’s pieces make us love fashion all day everyday! Always with her signature red lipstick, Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi loves to rock her custom designs.
We see her here with a stunning sheer custom piece that we wish was ready to wear.
Lanre attended the Vlisco store launch in this pretty collared shift dress with fabric by Vlisco, and paired it with gold sandals and accessories.
She also attended the Aquafina Elite Model Look Nigeria 2015 grand finale in this beautiful embellished flirty dress in yellow.
Adebayo Oke-Lawal of Orange Culture
If you want eccentric pieces that push the boundaries of Nigerian menswear, then Adebayo Oke-Lawal of Orange Culture (OC) is your guy. We love the unique spin he always puts on his pieces, and even more the fact that he’s always in OC.
He rocked a set from his H.E.R collection below pairing it with patent shoes and a leather clutch.
We also noticed that he loves to promote his brand. See a few images from a shoot with MADE magazine where he modeled his designs.
Andrea Iyamah of Andrea Iyamah
Swimwear and custom pieces are her forté, and we would have it no other way. Andrea Iyamah of the eponymous womenswear label loves to wear her designs, and does so effortlessly.
In this image she looks happy and sexy in a colour blocked jumpsuit with exaggerated sleeves.
This photo made us stop and stare. Andrea attended a wedding in this beautiful mustard gown with a lovely flowing train. The background is so frame worthy!
Next, we have the designer having fun in a pool in her own piece. The swimwear set from her 2015 collection is easy and sexy, and is guaranteed to show off your curves.
Wana Sambo of Wana Sambo
Womenswear designer Wana Sambo is another fashionista who loves her brand. We often see her posing in her pieces and looking fab on and off the red carpet.
Here she rocks a black lace dress with a sexy thigh-high slit self-designed.
Here’s another image of the designer in one of her latest pieces. This print shift dress looks casual and laid-back with sleeve cut-outs. We love it.
The 3rd photo we have of Wana is of her in a classy jumpsuit with peplum detailing. We really like the added sex appeal this piece has with off-shoulder sleeves.
Papa Omisore of P.O.C
When Papa Omisore is not rocking a dapper suit, he’s in P.O.C. So is Don Jazzy and a host of other celebs that wear Papa’s designs. We love the tunics the designer dishes out, and their fab prints.
In this first image, Papa rocks a piece from his latest offering with bold white, black & yellow stripes. We also love how he styled the outfit with gladiator sandals. Quite edgy!
Papa brought his gladiators out again for a spin with another tunic in black & white.
Can you tell he really likes tunics? He switched it up with this green and black number. He paired his outfit with white gladiators this time, accompanied by a chic female P.O.C lover.
Toyin Lawani of Tiannah Styling
We wonder what wing Toyin Lawani’s Tiannah Styling occupies in her empire. The designer is always showing off her latest looks on and off the red carpet.
Here we see Toyin portraying her ‘boss lady’ persona in a vintage print coat, a white tup and white embellished pants.
Toyin loves to switch things up. Here she rocks an Indian-inspired outfit that shows off a pretty detailed print.
Last but not the least, we see Toyin in traditional attire. We love the fact that the sheer lace dress she designed is a 2-way piece – the peplum detail is detachable. So fab!
Bubu Ogisi of IamIsigo
We absolutely love Bubu’s style. When she’s not styling a shoot, we always see her taking over our Instagram timeline looking fab in her own designs.
She rocked this outfit from her latest collection to the Aquafina Elite Model Look Nigeria2015 finale, and we couldn’t help but love the chic and laid-back vibe she’s giving.
We think she’s mastered the art of ‘in motion’ photos. 🙂 Here she looks monochrome fab in pants from her brand, paired with a black long sleeved top and heels.
This just might be one of our favoutite photos of her. We love her spin on this lace fabric – very chic and unique.
