RIP…16 Year Old Nigerian-Irish Football Star Collapses & Passes Away During a Match
It’s always sad to hear news about young lives cut short by horrible tragedy. Shetemi Ayetigbo, an Ireland-based 16-year-old football star who appears to be of Nigerian parentage, collapsed and died while playing during a football match on Sunday.
Ayetigbo played for the U-16 division of North Dublin side Belvedere Football Club. The unfortunate incident occurred when his team was playing in a league match against rivals St Kevin’s Boys.
Speaking on Ayetigbo’s death, an eyewitness told Irish Mirror:
“There was no incident, any attack. The young lad was playing, and he just dropped on the pitch. It was around 25 to 30 minutes into the game. A number of people rushed to his side straight away to give him first aid, as there was a defibrillator at the grounds. An ambulance came, and paramedics tried to treat him there. But he couldn’t be saved.
They then took his body to the hospital. The match was cancelled. Everyone was in shock. The young players, staff, and supporters had never witnessed anything like that on a football pitch. There were a good few people watching the match because it was the last game of the season.”
The cause of death is yet to be identified, however; a postmortem was said to have been set to take place yesterday.
Judging from results released so far, Shetemi may have suffered from a form of the sudden death syndrome.
