U.S Records Second Ebola Death
A surgeon who was a native of Sierra Leone and a legal United States resident, has died of Ebola. He is the second person to die from the disease in the U.S.
The deceased, Martin Salia, 44, was diagnosed in Sierra Leone at a hospital where he was treating Ebola patients. He was flown to Nebraska over the weekend to receive treatment. However, he died today, NBC News reports.
Speaking on Salia’s death, Phil Smith, medical director of the Nebraska Medical Center’s biocontainment unit said:
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share this news…Dr. Salia was extremely critical when he arrived here, and unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we weren’t able to save him.”
