GTBank Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2014 – Day 4: Sophie Zinga presents “Abyssinia”
Senegal came to play at the just concluded GTBank Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2014 as designer Sophie Nzinga Sy of Sophie Zinga showcased her Spring/Summer 2014 collection for the Nigerian audience.
Titled “Abyssiania” the collection was inspired by an old age Ethiopian empire and features Ethipoia’s orthodox church which is interpreted as symbols and geometrical shapes unto structured cocktail dresses and jumpsuits.
Known for soft colour palettes, the brand went for powder blues, baby pinks, whites and oranges used through out the collection with embroidered crosses and crystal embellishments while giving off a minimalist appeal with simple silhouettes. Fabrics used include a double face satin, beaded silk French chiffon, Alencon lace, silk organza, and ‘bazin’.
With hints of the 60s with shift dresses and powder blue jumpsuits, the sharp clean lines give off a modern take on the feminine pieces and has definitely got our vote.
