Fabulous & Fun! Onyeka & Kingsley’s Pre-Wedding Party Video & Photos

Today we have a fun and fabulous couple – Onyeka and Kingsley. Their eyes met at a party when she was 19 and he was 21. She sent him a Facebook message the next day after looking through pictures from the party where she saw him tagged, and added him as a ‘friend’. Yes she made the 1st move 😉 Fast forward 5 years later, Kingsley proposed to Onyeka at Thanksgiving, after saying he was thankful for her – Aww!

Proposal

At the time, Onyeka and I had been seriously dating for 17 months and I knew that the time had come for me to propose to her. I had for a few months, been deliberating on the timing of my proposal. I wanted it to be a day she would never forget, and what better day than Thanksgiving in November 2012. I figured it would give both families a lot to be thankful for and thus a perfect day to propose to Onyeka.

I knew the ring I was going to get for her since that summer when my friend Olaolu and I had gone window shopping for engagement rings, as he also was planning to propose to his then girlfriend. It was a stunning diamond piece. I had to start saving from the moment I saw it, since I was a full time student without a regular job and that ring cost an arm and a leg lol! I knew it would be worth it since I knew her taste. What got me was when the sales person explained to me that the three diamonds on the ring represent “the past”, “the present” and “the future”. It could have been one of the usual marketing gimmicks, but inside me I knew that statement defined all we went through in our long, sometimes tedious but exciting relationship.

On the morning of the day I recorded a video so I could remember how I felt just before I proposed. I had called up two of my close friends, Bruno and Moses to be there. I dressed up and we left, not knowing what to expect getting there. I had secretly informed Onyeka’s sister that morning so she would be ready to take candid pictures of the special moment. My boys and I left and on arriving at Onyeka’s house I entered having put the ring in my pocket. To my surprise there was a bunch of elderly people at her house that were being hosted for Thanksgiving lunch, which I should have anticipated but I hadn’t. Nevertheless that was not going to deter me nor make me quiver one bit.

As everyone started to say all they had been thankful for that year it got to my turn. That was the moment. I stood right beside Onyeka and after saying all I had been thankful for, I closed my statements with “I’m also thankful for the wonderful years I’ve known Onyeka and I want more years to come”. As I knelt down I watched the expressions on her face slowly but surely change, thankfully to a combination of confusion and then a distorted smile. I knew everyone – her parents and all the visitors were watching from behind but I only acknowledged one person in that living room – the person standing in front of me with a bemused expression. She said with her customary low pitched voice, “Kingsley why do you have to do this now” before she finally said YES! I felt a warm rush of blood to my forehead, from relief filled with happiness. I carefully placed the ring on her finger.

At that moment it dawned on me what I had just done. From that moment on with whatever I did; I would not think of one but two, no more singles but doubles. I smiled as I recognized the fact that I had just seconds ago signed on the co-pilot that would steer our future ship…
