Every girl dreams of strutting her stuff on the catwalk and being admired by millions of other girls around the world but not everyone is fit to be a model or gets the opportunity to catwalk on any stage much less the Elite Model Look Nigeria 2010 Competition.
As the 12 finalists of the Elite Model Look Nigeria 2010 competition took to the stage, all eyes were glued to the young girls who made it to the final round. With their hearts beating and blood pumping the girls started their cat walk unto the runway in swimwear by Melissa Odabash. Each contestant wore a unique bikini showing off her chiseled stomach and elongated limbs created specifically for the modeling world.
The event which was hosted by the beautiful and exuberant Georgina Eku Edewor-Thorley, a former candidate of the hit series “Britain’s Next Top Model” shared in the excitement of the show stating that being a former contestant in a modeling show herself, she understood the pressures the girls were feeling and encouraged all contestants to give it their best in hopes of being crowned Number One. It was very easy to spot the crowd favorite even at the beginning of the show when the girls had barely entered the room. As with the last competition, the crowd favorite would also serve as the judges’ favorite.
In the next category of the competition, the girls modeled gorgeous dresses by Nkwo Onwuka, whose designs complemented the slender figures of each model. The Nkwo designs were not only chic but beautiful and her designs were definitely made for the runway as it left every girl in the room breathless and wanting more.
In the next phase of the competition, the first half of the models wore designs by Vonne, whose edgy jackets should find a place in every Fashionista’s closet. The Jackets ranged from Edgy and Funky to Elegant and Sophisticated. It also gave the girls an opportunity to show off their personalities on the runway.
The other half of the models wore designs by MYA. Her dresses were sultry and flirty, giving the allure of a sexy night gown turned chic cocktail dress. At this point, the top six models were called to the front of the stage, leaving the bottom six in tears. I did feel for the girls, as they really gave it their best. They finally walked off stage as though their dreams had been completely shattered.
The top six girls as chosen by the judges including Omoyemi Akerele, Lola Maja, Kelechi Amadi-Obi and Fauzi Fahm were called to the front of the stage. The top 6 were Chika Emmanuel, Abiola Adeyemi, Ebeledike Nwando, Delphine Okobah, Marvis Offor and Onyechi Anita.
At the final showing of the evening, the top six girls modeled gowns by Jewel by Lisa. The collection was the highlight of the evening as it transformed the girls from budding models to “Catwalk Queens” in their glamorous pieces. Georgina Eku Edewor said it best when she stated that “The girls sparkle but when you’ve been Jeweled by Lisa you definitely dazzle”
At the end of the night when the host called out the top three contestants – Chika Emmanuel, Marvis Offor (She was also a finalist in the 2010 Face of Africa Competition) and Nwando Ebeledike, you could feel the intensity in the room as the audience waited for the No.1 contestant to be announced and surely it was no surprise that the winner of this year’s Elite Model Look Nigeria 2010 competition is Emmanuel Chika. At the sound of her name, there was a standing ovation and cheers from the crowd as the 15 year old made her way to the front of the stage.
It was her moment to shine and through her tears you could see her mouth and wave thank you to the judges and audience members who had been cheering for her since the beginning of the competition. In addition to her strong runway walk, unique look and good bone structure, this 5’7 model was definitely deserving of the title because she was definitely built for the runway. We wish you the best of luck and hope to see you on the international runways and magazine covers.
