In the spirit of Friday and to get you in the mood for the groove, this week’s “BN Music Friday Top 5” is dedicated to the African dance craze turned international phenomenon, Azonto. And, I think it’s right to say that this top 5 is long overdue but nonetheless, it’s here now so let’s get it started.

Since Azonto has become so huge, having artistes from different African countries most especially its originators, Ghana and our very own Nigerian stars, you can only imagine how difficult it would be to pick just five songs from a multitude of shoulder-jerking, leg-twisting, dance-inducing tunes. But… we shall overcome.

So this week, after our top 5 songs “of the moment”, we’ve added an extra list of MUST-HEAR Azonto jams. Have a great Friday. Here’s this week’s top 5:

5. Guru – Lapaz Toyota

This was the first ever Azonto jam I heard… and it’s still a bumping tune!

4. Keche – Sorkode

These two make a splendid Azonto anthem with this single.

3. Sarkodie Feat. E.L  – U Go Kill Me

“U Go Kill Me” quickly became the poster song for Azonto when the dance craze started in Nigeria.

2. Fuse ODG feat. Itz Tiffany – Azonto

This song went viral when this masked-dancers video got online. The rest is history…

And then it’s official video came out and was up to expectations with an extra feature from Donae’O

1. Wizkid – Azonto

Wizkid is ahead with number one because, in all honesty, a lot of Nigerians may not have paid “Azonto” much mind as early as they did if this young star hadn’t co-signed. And, by January 2012, Wizkid‘s “Azonto” freestyle went viral. Till today, the party hasn’t started if you don’t hear his “Komole! Gbesoke! Hahnnnnn!”

Wizkid, your fans still are still waiting for a video for this song oh!

So, in the meantime, here’s a splendid “Wizkid Tribute” dance video to go with it.

*************

Now, take a break and a deep breath of fresh air because as promised, here’s the Must-hear Azonto Songs List some of which have their videos included.
